August Burns Red formed in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in March 2003, while its members were still in high school. The lineup solidified in 2006 with the arrival of vocalist Jake Luhrs and bassist Dustin Davidson, joining founding guitarists JB Brubaker and Brent Rambler and drummer Matt Greiner — a lineup that's stayed intact ever since.
Known for pairing technical, progressive metalcore instrumentation with Luhrs's guttural delivery, the band has released a steady run of albums since 2005's Thrill Seeker, including Grammy-nominated efforts Found in Far Away Places (2015) and Phantom Anthem (2017). The band was inducted into the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame in 2025, with Season of Surrender due in 2026.
